We identifield the nucleic acid sequences encoding buffalo growth hormone using nucleic acid hybridization. Total RNA isolated from buffalo pituitary and hybridized with nick translated c-DNA (ovine) probe specific for growth hormone revealed strong positive signals. Southern blot analysis of buffalo genomic DNA digested with restriction enzyme and hybridized with specific c-DNA probe indicated overlapping 17.4 kb fragment in PVU I digest of DNA. The results suggest considerable degree of nucleotide sequence homology between buffalo and sheep coding sequence for growth hormone.
